Deepa
Malik was born on 30 September 1970 in Sonepat District of Haryana state in
India. Deepa Malik was diagnosed with a spine tumor at the age of 5 years and
she was recovered after 3 years of treatment and aggressive physiotherapy. She
played every game in her school and she was a part of the Rajasthan state-level cricket team. She played basketball and she was a good swimmer and a
horse rider. She is the daughter of an army officer and she has been married to
an army officer. She had to face an
accident after the birth of her first daughter. Injury on the right side of her
head caused paralysis in her left hand. Deepa Malik is a mother of two
daughters. The spine tumor of Deepa Malik again appeared at the age of 29 years
and doctors were able to eliminate the cancerous tumor from her body with 3
surgeries and 183 stitches. The body of Deepa Malik was paralyzed from the
waist down after her major surgery and she was unable to walk. She underwent
physiotherapy for almost six years after successful surgery. Actually, she
faced death and got a second chance at life. Most people silently declared
her a dead body. But Deepa Malik decided to fight back. Deepa Malik started
her sports career at the age of 36 years with the enthusiasm of a teenager
whereas most athletes usually decide to retire at the age of 36 years.
Deepa Malik successfully won every challenge by adapting to the new life with her
continuous efforts. Deepa Malik learned the new skills for success. Deepa Malik
began by joining the Himalayan Motorsports Association and conquered an 8-day
1,700 km bike ride to 18,000 feet in sub-zero temperatures. Deepa Malik is a
Paralympic athlete, a motor rally driver, a swimmer, a sports bike racer, an
entrepreneur, a motivational speaker, and a prominent disability activist.
Deepa Malik is the first
Indian woman to win a medal in the Paralympics. She won the silver medal in the
event of shot put in the 2016 Paralympic Games. She was previously honored with
the Arjuna award in 2012, at the age of 42 years. She has also conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017. She created a New Asian
Record in Asian Para Games 2018 and she is the only Indian woman to win medals
in 3 consecutive Asian Para Games of 2010, 2014, and 2018. She has won 68
national and 23 International medals across all disciplines to date. She has been
recognized at the world level as the Global Woman of the Year by the International
Paralympic Committee. Deepa Malik has announced her retirement from games but
will continue to be head of the Paralympic Committee of India. Deepa Malik has been
enhancing the emotional health of people with challenges and empowering women
to live a more self-reliant life through sports, mobility aids, and disability
advocacy through her Foundation Wheeling Happiness Foundation.

· Sumit Antil won Gold Medal in Men's Javelin Throw - F64
as Athlete. Sumit Antil was
born on 6 July 1998 in village Khewra of Sonipat District in Haryana, India. He
lost his left leg below the knee after he was involved in a motorbike
accident in 2015 at the age of 17.
· Pramod Bhagat won Gold Medal in Men's Singles SL3 of Badminton.
Pramod Bhagat has a defect
on his left leg since his age of five years.
· Krishna Nagar won Gold Medal in Men's Singles SH6 of Badminton.
Parents of Krishna Nagar
noticed when Krishna Nagar was one-and-a-half years old that Krishna Nagar suffered from dwarfism because of some hormone
deficiency in the pituitary gland.
· Manish Narwal won Gold Medal in P4 - Mixed 50m Pistol SH1
of Shooting. Manish Narwal
has an impairment to his right hand which was noticed when he was in the first
grade. He cried a lot and he was afraid to be in front of public.
· Avani Lekhara won Gold Medal in R2 - Women's 10m Air
Rifle Standing SH1 of Shooting. Avani Lekhara also won Bronze in R8 - Women's
50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 of Shooting. Avani Lekhara sustained spinal cord injuries in a car accident during
2012 and she was paralyzed below the waist. Avani
Lekhara just at the age of 19 years finished
with a world record equalling total of 249.6, which is also a new Paralympic
record.
· Yogesh Kathuniya won Silver Medal in Men's Discus Throw -
F56 as Athlete. Yogesh
Kathuniya suffered a paralytic attack at the age of eight years, which left him
with impaired limb coordination.
· Nishad Kumar won Silver Medal in Men's High Jump - T47 as
Athlete. Nishad Kumar lost
his right hand when he met with an accident at his young age.
· Mariyappan Thangavelu won Silver Medal in Men's High Jump
- T63 as Athlete. Mariyappan
Thangavelu has won Padma Shri and Khel
Ratna awards who suffered permanent
disability in his right leg which was crushed under a bus when he was only
five years old.
· Praveen Kumar won Silver Medal in Men's High Jump - T64
as Athlete. Praveen Kumar
has a congenital deformity in his left leg as a teenager who began largely
as a self-taught jumper in his early teens.
· Devendra Jhajharia won Silver Medal in Men's Javelin
Throw - F46 as Athlete. Devendra Jhajharia touched a live electric cable when he was climbing a tree at
the age of eight years. He immediately received medical attention but the
doctors were forced to amputate his left hand for saving his life.

Suhas Yathiraj won
Silver Medal in Men's Singles SL4 of Badminton.
Suhas Yathiraj has an impairment to
one of his ankles. Suhas Yathiraj never
allowed the impairment to stop him in fulfilling his dream. Moreover, he is an
IAS officer.
· Singhraj Adhana won Silver Medal in P4 - Mixed 50m Pistol
SH1 of Shooting. Singhraj Adhana was also winner of Bronze Medal in P1 - Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1
of Shooting. Singhraj Adhana
is affected by his polio-prone lower limbs. Despite this disability. Singhraj Adhana has also won the Gold Medal in team at the Chateauroux World
Cup held in France.
· Bhavina Patel won Silver Medal in Women's Singles - Class
4 of Table Tennis. Family of Bhavina Patel
noticed that Bhavina Patel was suffering from poliomyelitis.
· Harvinder Singh won Bronze Medal in Men's Individual
Recurve – Open of Archery. Harvinder Singh lost the ability to move his legs properly at the age of
just one and half year old due to the adverse effects of an injection during a
bout of dengue.
· Sharad Kumar won Bronze Medal in Men's High Jump - T63 as
Athlete. Sharad Kumar was
born during March 1992 in Muzaffarpur of Bihar. Sharad Kumar
suffered paralysis of his left leg as a result of taking spurious
polio medicine at a local eradication drive at the age of two years.
· Sundar Singh Gurjar won Bronze Medal in Men's Javelin
Throw - F46 as Athlete. Sundar Singh Gurjar lost his left hand during the year 2015 when a metal
sheet fell on him at the house of his friend. Sundar
Singh Gurjar had also won Gold Medal earlier in 2017 and 2019 in World Para Athletics Championships.
· Manoj Sarkar won Bronze Medal in Men's Singles SL3 of Badminton.
Manoj Sarkar is from an ordinary background who is suffering from a PPRP Lower Limb condition. The disability of
Manoj Sarkar has rose out because of wrongful medical treatment at the age
of one year.
